Case Study: Arla

The Business

Arla is the 9th largest Dairy company in the world with a turnover of 10 billion Euros. Arla is a uniquely structured Co-op that AgrosMilk understands deeply and has had a successful working relationship with since 2000.

Arla had three different systems across 7 countries. Essentially three different teams doing the same job of one settlement. This was causing both commercial and operational inefficiencies. It selected AgrosMilk following a comprehensive and detailed tender process. With our proven track record with both Arla and in the dairy industry, we proved to be a cost-effective solution, which reduced costs versus traditional ERP systems.

Arla’s key objectives were to use technology to gain market share by attracting more producers to work with Arla. Arla identified better communication for payment information as a key reason why suppliers would want to work with them. They also wanted to make the operation of the supply chain more effective, delivering cost savings through Project Calcium and embracing digital tools and new ways of working to get best-of-breed technologies for their members in order to attract and retain suppliers in such a competitive market. AgrosMilk through its partnership with Arla, are a factor in Arla being able to deliver the type of metrics outlined below:

Arla is a cooperative which is member-owned with complex requirements for capital accounts and share and equity applications. AgrosMilk delivered cost savings using technology as an enabler. We have a proven track record in providing specialist “out of the box” Agri software for a complex sector and can also do specialist client modifications where required.

The Delivery

AgrosMilk delivers a consolidated platform with significant technical and cost savings to Arla. Enhanced information, member communication and financial reporting is a key driver for member retention and acquisition.

The rest APIs are a means of proactive monitoring as opposed to reactive. If a milk load is missed these APIs flag it on the system and alert the user to the issue. These issue logs are colour-coded by level of severity and can be addressed, reported on or monitored for further actions.

Arla wanted to support Farmers in the way they work and also improve their business through consultancy and continual optimisation of their farms. Arla turned to AgrosMilk to solve these problems and alleviate some of the farmer’s pain and frustration. Through the implementation process, AgrosMilk understood the business and took responsibility for solving pain points.
